Scuba Diving – Images and Videos by Chris Aran
I love movies and I love how movies are made. Because of my experiences in filmmaking I have also had the pleasure of discovering not only new ways to capture images to tell a story, but I have also discovered some life changing recreational activities as well.
In 2012 I travelled the world working in the camera department on a show called No Kitchen Required for BBC America. The show, which remains one of my greatest experiences in terms of crew and life adventure, saw me at the end of the job with a burning desire for more. More knowledge and more life experience. More travel, more cultural emersion. And of course more Scuba Diving.
While shooting one of the episodes I was asked about doing some underwater footage. I jumped at the request and immediately signed up for a discovery dive with a local shop in Koh Lanta, Thailand on one of our days off. It changed my life. I discovered the most beautiful alien world just below the surface of the ocean. Not that I didn’t know it was there, but experiencing it for real, was something else altogether.
I decided after my first 30 minutes underwater that I would take any and every opportunity to scuba dive and learn how to capture images underwater. The videos above are just a few of many more to come displaying my development of underwater photography and film work.
